ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team struggled to push a run across in Friday night's series opener as the Tritons dropped a pitchers' duel, 2-0, to Florida Tech at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Eckerd threatened in the opening frame, loading the bases on a Jenice Casanas double, and walks by Skylar Redish and Lauren Margolis. However, EC was unable to push a run across.
The Panthers struck in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI double. FT tacked on an insurance run in the fifth on a Chloe French sacrifice fly.
EC had another opportunity in the sixth as Kayla Hurley led off the inning with a single, and Margolis followed with a walk, but EC was unable to push either across.

NOTES AND NUMBERS
- Redish and Margolis each reached base twice. Redish had a hit and a walk while Margolis drew a pair of walks.
- Casanas' double was her third of the season.
- Hannah Perkins took the loss, scattering six hits and two runs while striking out three.
