Tritons Rally Past Embry-Riddle to Take Series Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After trailing by six early on, the Eckerd baseball team slowly chipped away at the Eagles' lead. Dimerson Nunez completed the Tritons' comeback, delivering the winning run with an RBI single in the eighth as Eckerd topped Embry-Riddle, 10-9, in the series opener Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Embry-Riddle opened the scoring in the third inning with three runs, scoring on an RBI groundout, two-run single, two-run homerun, and a wild pitch. Eckerd responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-run homerun by Michael Ballard

The Eagles added to their lead with a two-run homerun in the fourth. EC answered with three runs in the bottom of the stanza as Mitch Donofrio scored on Gunner Womer's grounder and another two runs scored on an error.

ERAU took a 9-5 lead in the fifth on a solo homerun. Eckerd pulled within one on a Danny Gutcher three-run homerun to right-center in the sixth before Tyler Cox delivered the tying run with an RBI single to center field in the seventh.

Wommer led off the eight with a single to right-center. He was lifted for pinch-runner Jake Fajardo, who stole second and advanced to third on Ballard's ground out. Nunez then plated the go-ahead run, beating out an RBI single to shortstop. Jake Sanderson closed the door for the Tritons in the ninth.
