MELBOURNE, Fla. The Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first four innings, as the Eckerd baseball team's bats struggled early, falling 7-2 to Florida Tech on Friday night at Seminick-Hall Field.
The first four innings belonged to Florida Tech, as the Panthers' offense exploded for seven runs. They added three runs in the opening frame on an RBI triple, single, and double. They added a run in the second and third innings, followed by two in the fourth on a single and a wild pitch.
Eckerd had two runners in scoring position in the eighth, with Mikey Burke at third after a Dimerson Nunez double, but EC could not push the runs across.
Eckerd rallied in the ninth inning as EC tallied two runs via an RBI double by Danny Gutcher and an RBI single by Tyler Young. However, the comeback fell short as the Tritons were unable to make up the difference.
