ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Tritons' steady offense throughout the night was enough to survive a late Davenport (Mich.) rally, as the Eckerd basbeall earned its sixth win of the season, 6-5, Tuesday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Panthers struck first in the second on an RBI single. The Tritons immediately answered, plating two runs via a Panther throwing error, sending Gunner Womer home and an RBI single by Jake Fajardo.
Eckerd added to its lead in the fifth inning as Michael Ballard scored on a wild pitch. DU's offense woke up in the fifth, scoring two runs to even the score, 3-3, on a two-run single. Jake Andriole began the sixth with a leadoff double, scoring on Danny Gutcher's RBI single as Eckerd took the lead, 4-3.
The Tritons extended their lead in the seventh frame, adding two runs as Tyler Cox plated both runs with a stand-up double to right-center for a 6-3 lead.
DU put on a scare when Nolan Anspaugh hit a one-out, two-run homerun to pull the Panthers within one, 6-5. Cox put Davenport's momentum to a halt and earned the save.
