Tritons Drop Doubleheader at No. 17 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Eckerd softball team's offense struggled to gain momentum at No. 17 Tampa, dropping a doubleheader, 2-0 and 3-0, Saturday afternoon at Naimoli Field.

The Spartans scored both of their runs in the third inning, as Lauren Fantone tripled and scored on a Tritons' miscue. Corynn Miner then doubled to left center, scoring Mariah Galhouse. The Tritons' only hit came as Jenice Casanas singled to right center field in the fifth inning. She moved into scoring position on an error, but EC could not push her across.

Tampa took an early lead in the finale, tacking on three runs in the first three frames on a pair of RBI singles and an RBI groundout. Eckerd's best chance to score came in the fifth stanza, when Casanas ripped a two-out double to left field. The next at-bat, pinch-hitter, Addisan Langston, singled through the left side, advancing Casanas to third. However, EC could not push the run across. EC threatened again in the seventh with a pair of runners on with no outs, but the Tritons couldn't plate a run.
