Tritons Fall in Double Overtime Against West Alabama

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In a tightly contested match, the Eckerd men's soccer team fell in the final minute to West Alabama at Johnson Field Friday night.

Both teams scored early with Pedro Galvao equalizing the match at 1-1 for the Tritons in the 19th minute. After the goal, both teams went quiet sending the game into double-overtime before West Alabama's Liam Condone sent in the golden goal in the 110th minute.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Tigers wasted little time getting on the board as Callum Rai scored the opening goal in the 12th minute. Lucas Hart took a free kick from the far right side sending in a ball to the top of the box where Rai punched it into the right corner.
  • Eckerd quickly countered the Tigers' goal registering four shots over the next seven minutes with Pedro Galvao netting the equalizer in the 19th minute. Agustin Pertusso slid the ball to Galvao across the top of the 18 and Galvao shook off a defender and rifled a low shot to the far left corner.
  • Neither team was able to get a quality look on goal in the remainder of the half as the teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.
  • On a counterattack, Ty Dolan took a run at goal down the middle of the field in the 60th minute, but his shot sailed high.
  • Both teams took a good look on goal inside the final five minutes of regulation. Zach McLaughlin took a far shot from the right side in the 85th minute, but his shot was turned back. In the 90th minute, Richard Lopez took a low shot, but David Ormiston was there to collect the save.
  • West Alabama took the only shot by either team in the first overtime as Ormiston turned back a shot by Vince Stans in the 95th minute.
  • Ormiston came up big again for EC in the 107th minute turning back three shots on two corner kicks in a two-minute span.
  • In the 110th minute, David Nascimento sent in a free kick from the right side to the center of the box where Paul Efgang slid a pass to Condone who touched into the back of the goal for the golden goal.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • West Alabama outshot Eckerd 13-9 and 7-4 in shots on goal.
  • Ormiston collected five saves in goal for the Tritons.
  • Galvao's goal was his first of the season and the fifth of his career.
  • It was a physical match as both teams combined for 47 fouls.
  • The Tritons played a man down from the 62nd minute forward after Pertusso was sent off with a red card.
