TAMPA, Fla. - Mitch Calandra became the new all-time hits leader for Eckerd baseball, but the Tritons didn't have much else to celebrate as they fell at No. 2 Tampa on Friday, 8-4, in the opening game of Eckerd's final regular-season series.
The Spartans did something no one else was able to do this season - find a way to get to Eckerd ace
Dillon McCollough. UT roughed up McCollough for eight runs over seven-plus innings.
A four-run fourth did most of the damage, extending Tampa's lead to 5-0. The Tritons scored two in the sixth and two in the eighth but were unable to get closer than three runs.
