ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Triton men's soccer team got a vital victory on Wednesday night as
Juan David Tejada netted both the equalizer and game-winner in the second half leading Eckerd to a 2-1 win over Embry-Riddle at Johnson Field.
HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 2, Embry-Riddle 1
Records: Eckerd 3-5-1 (1-3 SSC), Embry-Riddle 2-4 (1-3 SSC)
KEY MOMENTS
- Aside from an early shot by Pedro Galvao, neither team generated much in the way of quality chances in the first 45 minutes as the match went to halftime in a scoreless tie.
- Embry-Riddle opened the scoring early in the second half when Alex O'Brien won a contested ball in the air in the box. Â He headed it back to Teddy West, who sent a low bouncing shot past David Ormiston and inside the right post in the 53rd minute.
- It took Eckerd less than a minute to answer.  Working the ball into the box, Agustin Pertusso slid a short pass through the defense to Tejada near the top of the six-yard box.  Tejada's shot went off the hands of Eagle keeper Gudmunder Sigurbjornsson, over his head and under the crossbar to tie the match.
- Ty Dolan had a chance at close range moments later to add a goal to EC's lead but his strike sailed just wide of the right post.
- Ormiston turned back two Eagle attempts to take the lead as the match remained in a 1-1 tie until the 86th minute. Â Dolan dribbled through a pair of defenders and was fouled inside the box, setting up a penalty kick for Tejada. Â The senior sent the ball low left, but Sigurbjornsson made a diving save. Â However, Tejada beat him to the rebound and rifled a second shot into the upper right corner for his second goal of the night.
- Eckerd nearly added another goal on a counter-attack, but Galvao's strike deflected off the crossbar. Â ERAU sent in a pair of good crosses in the final four minutes, though neither produced a clear look at the frame.
