Tritons Drop Series Finale to Embry-Riddle

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team dropped the final game of the three-game Sunshine State Conference series to Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Embry-Riddle opened the game with two runs in the first inning. Eckerd, however, evened the score with a Keith Leavitt, Jr two-run homerun. The Eagles fired back though with an 11-run third inning to blow the game open.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Embry-Riddle opened the game with two runs in the first inning scoring on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
  • The Triton quickly evened the score in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run homerun by Leavitt, Jr.
  • The Eagles took a commanding lead in the third inning after scoring 11 runs. In the inning, Embry-Riddle hit three homeruns. Luis Olivier hit a two-run and three-run homerun while Kyle Guttveg hit an inside-the-park grand slam. The Eagles also scored in the inning on an RBI single and RBI triple.
  • Embry-Riddle scored three more runs in the fifth inning on an RBI double and another two runs crossing on wild pitches.
  • Mitch Calandra provided Eckerd with two runs in the fifth inning with a two-run homerun to center field.
  • The Eagles added another three runs late in the game with a two-run single in the seventh and solo homerun in the eighth.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • With a single in the fifth inning, Chase Achuff extended his hitting streak to 18 games. Calandra and Nick Conti also extended their reached base streaks to 13 and 11 games respectively.
  • Leavitt, Jr has homered in four of the past seven games.
  • The Tritons used seven pitchers in the game with Tyler Schlegel throwing one perfect inning while Drew Martin threw two hitless innings.
