KEY MOMENTS
Game 1
  • The opening game was a pitchers' duel through the first four innings as neither team was able to score a run.  Nikole Van Gennep set down the first nine batters in order while Eckerd managed three baserunners but stranded them all.
  • The Sailfish finally broke the stalemate in the fifth inning, scoring twice on two hits and an Eckerd error.  A leadoff single followed by a wild pitch moved Maddie Bertisch into scoring position where pinch-hitter Taylor Pennica drove her home with a single up the middle.  PBA added a second run after a two-out error allowed a runner to score from third.
  • Adkins took care of the rest in the circle for the Sailfish, retiring the final nine batters she faced.  Bertisch added a two-out RBI single in the sixth for an insurance run.
Game 2
  • Eckerd had an early chance against Busby after back-to-back singles from Dana Paul and Crystal Garcia opened the inning, and both moved into scoring position after a passed ball.  However, Busby got out of the inning with a groundout and two strikeouts.
  • Bertisch struck again in the bottom of the third for Palm Beach Atlantic with another two-out RBI single to give the Sailfish a 1-0 lead.
  • After Edmilly Molina tripled to lead off the bottom of the fifth, Michaela Hynes sent a ball over the left field fence to extend PBA's lead to 3-0.
  • The Tritons recorded a hit in the third, fourth and fifth innings but left all runners stranded.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Grace Willeck pitched a combined 2-2/3 scoreless innings of relief in the two games, lowering her season ERA to 2.03.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic has won 12 games in a row following the two wins today.
  • Kaleigh Floyd and Crystal Garcia both had two hits in the second game.  Garcia has hit safely in 12 of her last 14 games.
