ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team exploded for 23 hits on Sunday to complete a three-game series sweep of Claflin (S.C.) at the Turley Athletic Complex, scoring a 21-4 win.
The Triton scored four runs in the fourth, taking a 6-3 lead, then sent 15 batters to the plate during a nine-run fifth.
Robin Allen, meanwhile, threw six strong innings to pick up his first win of the year, striking out seven and allowing one earned run in six innings of work.
Cameron Lanzilli and
Brandon Castle each tossed an inning of scoreless relief as well.

KEY MOMENTS
- Mitch Calandra put Eckerd on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single, the first of three hits on the day for the junior. Eckerd added another run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Jamaal Chaney.
- Taking advantage of an error and a ball lost in the sun, Claflin scored three times in the top of the third for a 3-2 lead.
- The Tritons retook the lead in the fourth on RBI singles from Garrett Hiott and Chase Achuff while two more runs came in on a Chaney groundout and a Claflin error.
- Eckerd blew the game open in the home half of the fifth, scoring nine runs on five hits. Bryan Torres's three-run home run - his third of the series - highlighted an inning which was Eckerd send 15 batters to the plate.
- Andrew Don led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run which was followed by a double by Tim Mira and a run-scoring single by Nick Arrivo.
- The Tritons added four more runs in the eighth via RBI hits from Mira, Arrivo and Keith Leavitt, Jr.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
- The 21 runs scored were the most by a Triton team since March 15, 2010, when Eckerd crossed the plate 22 times against Saint Anselm.
- Eckerd's 23-hit performance was the team's most since April 16, 2016, when the Tritons totaled 25 hits against Palm Beach Atlantic.
- Thirteen Tritons recorded at least one base hit in the game. Calandra, Achuff and Leavitt, Jr. led the way with three hits each.
- Allen fanned a career-high seven batters in the win. Â He struck out five in the first two innings.
