Season Ends for Tritons With Loss to No. 23 Sharks

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd men's soccer season came to a close on Saturday at Johnson Field as No. 23 Nova Southeastern scored all four of its goals in the first half on the way to a 4-0 win over the Tritons on Senior Night.

HOW IT ENDED
Final: #23 Nova Southeastern 4, Eckerd 0
Records: Eckerd 4-10-1 (2-8 SSC); Nova Southeastern 11-3 (7-2 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sharks wasted little time in opening the scoring. Making a run down the left side, Aleks Berg slid a short pass to Michael Lawrence in the box, who quickly sent a strike inside the left post in the fourth minute.
  • Lawrence struck again in the 12th minute, this time set up by a through bll from Arns Carrenard. Lawrence got behind the EC defense and this time finished inside the right post for his second goal.
  • Lawrence factored into another goal one minute later, this time setting up Bradley Fountain on a low cross that Fountain finished into the upper right corner.
  • NSU added a fourth goal in the 36th minute after a foul was called on the Tritons in the box during a battle for a rebounded shot.  Darwin Lom buried the penalty.
  • Eckerd had a few quality chances in the second half but saw them sail just off the frame. The defense held strong and didn't allow a goal in the final half of play.
NOTES AND NUMBERS
  • Tonight brought an end to the careers of Eckerd's six seniors: Liam Guest, T.J. Soehn, Westleigh Rush, Juan David Tejada, Robert Carter, and Bailey O'Shea.
  • Tejada finishes his career with 23 goals, tied for sixth in program history.  His 58 career points also rank sixth all-time.
  • The Sharks held a 22-8 edge in shots. Mason DeBaets made six saves.
  • The loss brings the season to a close for the Tritons as EC will not qualify for the conference tournament.
