ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Triton basketball teams will resume play this weekend after time off due to the holiday. The teams return to conference play hosting Rollins College on Saturday in the McArthur Center.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

  • No. 24 Eckerd (10-2, 4-1 SSC) looks to continue the hot start to the season as they host Rollins on Saturday. Eckerd played last week with a win over Albany State (Ga.) and a loss to Lewis (Ill.) University.
  • The Tritons are led in scoring by two players averaging double-digits: Kacie Juday (14.0 ppg) and Yarden Danan (10.9). Behind the pair is a balanced offense of Chelsea Johnson (8.7), Zoe Richards (8.6), and Ada Yalcin (7.3). Juday's 14.0 points average rank ninth-best in the conference. All five shoot over 40 percent with Richards leading the team at a 61.3 percent clip. Danan leads the team behind the arc shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point range.
  • Juday also leads the team on the boards averaging a conference fourth-best 8.8 rebounds per game. Also contributing on the glass are Richards (4.3) and Armi Anttila (4.1).
  • Yalcin drives the Eckerd offense averaging a conference third-best 4.3 assists per game. She also leads the team in steals averaging 1.9 per contest.
  • Rollins (8-3, 3-2 SSC) played over a week ago in a loss to Albany State (Ga.). The Tars are lead by two players averaging double-digits: Julia Ingler (12.6 ppg) and Denise Daniels (12.4). Carly McLendon leads the team on the boards averaging 9.3 rebounds per game while Vernisha Andrews also averages 8.7 per game. McLendon also averages 3.1 blocks per game. 
  • Last season, the two teams faced three times with Eckerd winning on the road and losing at home twice, the second coming in the second round of the South Region Tournament.
MEN'S BASKETBALL

  • No. 24 Eckerd (11-1, 4-1 SSC) looks to add to its eight-game winning streak as the Tritons host Rollins on Saturday. Eckerd played early last week with two wins at the Florida Southern Christmas Classic beating Emmanuel (Ga.) and Dominican (N.Y.).
  • The Tritons are led by a quartet of players averaging double figures: Drushaun McLaurn (17.9 ppg), Trevon Young (16.0), Blake Morrow (13.6), and Keshawn Ingram (10.9). The team shoots 49.3 percent from the floor ranking 40th in the country. McLaurn's 62.1 field goal percentage ranks third in the conference, while his 90 field goals made rank 23rd in the country. Ingram leads the team behind the arc sinking 28 3's, while Morrow shoots at a 41.3 percent clip from 3-point range.
  • The team excels on the boards ranking fifth in the country in rebound margin averaging 11.5 more per game than opponents. Leading the team is Young with a conference fourth-best 9.2 rebounds per game. Young ranks 35th in the country in total rebounds with 110. Also contributing on the glass is McLaurn (6.1) and Marco Behori (5.8).
  • The team distributes the ball well with four players averaging over two assists per game.  Behori and Morrow lead the team with 2.8 assists per game.
  • Rollins (8-5, 4-1) enters after two losses last week to Midwestern State and West Texas A&M. The Tars have five players averaging double-digits: Sam Philpott (20.8 ppg), Jeff Merton (14.8), Eric Castaneda (13.2), Deion Clark (13.1), and Connor Mckim (10.6). Clark leads the team in rebounds averaging 4.7 per game.
  • Last season, the two teams faced each other three times with Eckerd sweeping the Tars in the regular season and losing in the second round of the conference tournament.
