WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Rollins attack was no match for the Eckerd defense Wednesday night as the women's soccer team shut out the Tars, 1-0, on the road.
HOW IT ENDED
Final: Eckerd 1, Rollins 0
Records: Eckerd (4-5, 3-3 SSC); Rollins (3-6-3, 2-3-2 SSC)
All-Time Series: Rollins leads, 14-11-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
* Rollins started the game aggressively firing five shots in the first 18 minutes, but the Eckerd defense played strong stopping everything that came its way.
* Late in the first half, the Tritons forced the ball to their attacking third. Kayla Gray nearly came up with a goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot was blocked. A minute later, Gray took aim once again and this time converted for Eckerd's lone goal of the game. Stephanie Linton found Gray just outside of the box where she beat her defender, sending a shot to the far post and into the back of the net.
* Rollins continued the same aggressive attack in the second half, taking 11 shots with six on goal. However, the Eckerd defense held firm behind goalkeeper Casey Winn who saved all six shots she faced.
* In the 57th minute, Rollins had two scoring opportunities looking to equalize. The Triton back line played a huge role coming up with a save off Shalisa Crowell's header and, fewer than 30 seconds later, Winn stopped Jaya Perentis's shot. Winn recorded another three saves in the following 10 minutes.
NOTABLE
* Winn collected eight saves, her second-highest of the season. The Triton defense also teamed up for an additional two saves. Winn has proven to be a force against Rollins as she collected 13 saves last season against the Tars.
* Eckerd was out-shot in the match 20-5 and 10-1 on goal, but made the most of its opportunity.
* Gray took three of Eckerd's five shots. Her goal in the 34th minute was her second goal of the season and Linton's first assist of the season.
