Neagu Resigns Post as Men's Soccer Coach

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - In two short years as the team's head coach, Cristian Neagu made major strides in turning the Eckerd men's soccer program into a contender in the Sunshine State Conference.

The cupboard will certainly be left full for his successor, as Neagu announced to his team on Monday that he will be departing Eckerd College for personal reasons and has accepted the assistant coach position at the University of North Carolina under EC graduate Carlos Somoano.

"We are certainly very sad to see Cristian go," said Eckerd College Director of Athletics Dr. Bob Fortosis.  "He did great things with our program in a short time and set a new standard for Eckerd soccer."

In 2015, Neagu guided the Tritons to an eight-match unbeaten streak to start the season and a national ranking in the NSCAA Division II Coaches Poll after coming in at No. 23 in the October 13 ratings.

A nation-wide search for Neagu's successor begins immediately.
