Baseball’s Cuda Named to Daktronics All-South Region Second Team

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Decorated Eckerd College baseball pitcher Joey Cuda continued to bring home postseason honors following his final season on the diamond, earning a Daktronics All-South Region Second-Team selection as announced on Thursday.

Cuda was also named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team yesterday and remains a semifinalist for the Tino Martinez Division II Player of the Year award.

A total of 30 student-athletes were voted in on the Daktronics South regional level. Anthony Boza (Lynn University) was crowned Player of the Year while Sean Bierman (Tampa) was tabbed Pitcher of the Year in the South Region.

Cuda compiled a 6-4 record on the mound to go with 114 strikeouts (the school's second-best single season total) and a 2.92 ERA in his sterling senior campaign. He also recorded a pair of saves and went the distance put together three shutouts all while allowing just 14 walks in over 86 innings pitched.

Cuda fanned a career-high 14 hitters in stellar starts against the University of Tampa and Rollins College. He was also the male recipient of the distinguished Harley Award and the team-specific Triton Award/MVP at Eckerd's annual athletics banquet.

Cuda was named the SSC/NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week three different times during the spring.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. Voting is done by NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
