LEXINGTON, Ky. – Eckerd College sophomore outside hitter
Lindsay Biggs was recognized as one of the nation's best on Monday, officially announced as an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Div. II Third Team All-American.
Biggs made history as an integral part of the resurgent Tritons' NCAA “Sweet 16” program, becoming just the second student-athlete in the school archives to receive AVCA All-American status, joining former standout Lydee Benoit, also a third-team pick, in 2009.
Biggs was one of 27 student-athletes on this year's AVCA All-American Team to receive the distinction for the first time in their career.
“Lindsay works really hard to be the student-athlete that she is and this award is very well-deserved,” praised Sunshine State Conference and AVCA South Region Coach of the Year Courtney Draper. “I am very proud of the work she put into her offseason training throughout the spring and summer.”
“Anyone who saw Lindsay play this season would be impressed,” Draper said. “She is one of the strongest athletes I've had the pleasure of coaching.”
In addition to her long list of postseason honors, Biggs was a First-Team All-SSC selection, AVCA First-Team All-South Region pick and Daktronics Second-Team All-South Region honoree.
Biggs also collected AVCA National Player of the Week accolades after the Tritons topped then-No. 1 and previously unbeaten University of Tampa and was a back-to-back winner of SSC Offensive Player of the Week awards. She finished third overall in the SSC Player of the Year balloting.
Biggs started 30 of the 32 matches she played in this season, leading the team with 366 kills and adding 326 digs. She spiked down a career-high 21 kills against Rollins College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and averaged three kills per set.
Biggs registered 14 kill/dig 'double-doubles' in her sophomore campaign, digging out a season-high 20 attack attempts against Florida Southern College (Oct. 7).
