  • Tom Ryan has made his mark at Eckerd in several ways.
  • As a student-athlete, Ryan was a point guard under legendary coach and administrator Jim Harley from 1983 to 1987 and helped the Tritons win 66 games, including back-to-back 18-win seasons.
  • After his playing career ended, Ryan joined Harley's staff as an assistant coach, a role he held until taking over for Harley in 1996.
  • Since then, Ryan has led the program to unprecedented heights.He won his 400th game in February 2017 and is on pace to surpass Harley for the most in program history.He has also guided the Tritons to 11 appearances in the NCAA National Tournament and 12 20-win seasons during his tenure.
  • A three-time recipient of the Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year award, Ryan's teams have won three SSC tournament titles (2004, 2007, 2016) and one regular season title (2016).The Tritons have made two significant postseason runs under his leadership, winning the south region and advancing to the Elite 8 in 2003 before making it to the Sweet 16 in 2007.Ryan earned additional accolades in 2001 as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coach of the Year and the NABC-Chevrolet South District Coach of the Year.
  • Ryan also has an active role as an administrator, overseeing the department's summer camps and coordinating the annual dinner auction.He has previously served as the athletic department's facilities director and compliance officer. In May 2017, he was named Acting Athletic Director.
