  • Kerwin Thompson, a native to Trinidad, graduated from Eckerd in 1996 with a degree in physics as a star center basketball player.
  • Throughout his career at Eckerd, he was a two-time All-American and All-Sunshine State Conference performer, SSC Player of the Year (1996) and Eckerd College Athlete of the Year (1996). He was also named to the 1996 All American Second Team.
  • He also holds the fourth place school record for total points scored with 557.
  • Thompson is known for his 284 career blocked shots which remains in the Division II Top-10.
  • He was also deeply involved in the Tampa Bay community and dedicated much of his time to mentoring at schools and working at youth summer basketball camps.
  • Thompson continued his professional career in the NBA with Seattle SuperSonics, the CBA’s Omaha franchise, and a professional league in Israel.
  • Thompson was inducted into the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame in 2006.
