ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. –With basketball season right around the corner, the Eckerd College men's and women's basketball teams, dance team, cheerleaders and more will be on display Saturday, Oct. 11. The 2014 Triton Tip-Off will begin at 9:30 p.m. in the McArthur Center.
EC students and fans will be packing in the gym for the hour long experience that will feature several events celebrating the 2014-15 basketball season.
Comparable to "Midnight Madness" celebrated across the nation, the Triton Tip-Off continues to be a strong Eckerd tradition with the fans and student body.
Before the Tip-off begins, volleyball along with men's and women's soccer will all be in action at home. Volleyball will host Lynn University at 4 p.m. while soccer will take on Florida Tech with the women's game beginning at 4:30 and the men's game set to follow.
A relay race, spirit contest and 20-second challenge, will have students competing for prize packages donated by various athletic sponsors. T-shirts will also be tossed into the crowd throughout the night.
P.A. announcer Terry Donald will set the tone as he brings out the 2014-15 men's and women's basketball rosters and coaching staffs for their official introductions with their chosen songs playing in the background under the spotlight.
Both teams will get a turn on the court to display their talents with the women's squad engaging the fans in a shooting contest and the men's team entertaining in a layup/slam dunk line.
This year's Master of Ceremonies will be Chris Higgins.
The dance team and cheerleaders are slated to perform respective routines on the floor.
A dance line will conclude the evening's festivities as everyone moves and shakes their way out the doors of the McArthur Center officially ushering in the new basketball season.
Our sponsors for this year's event include: ECOS, the Eckerd athletics department, EC Student Affairs, EC Student Senate, Eckerd Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Domino's, Barnes & Noble and Ferg's Sports Bar.
