SSC ReleaseMELBOURNE, Fla. – After a 2-0 week in conference play, The Eckerd College women's soccer team had seniors,
Arie Anahory and
Morgan Crescent, named SSC Players of the Week.
For Anahory, it was her second selection this season for Offensive Player of the Week. The senior forward grabbed her 11
th and 12
th goals of the season as she drove two game winning goals past the reach of Florida Southern and Florida Tech's goalkeepers to lead the Tritons to two victories.
Anahory came into the week leading the nation (NCAA DII) in points per game (3.22), third in goals per game (1.2), and fourth in total points (29).
Crescent's stellar play in goal earned her Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The senior keeper tabbed her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season during the team's two contests. The 1-0 shutout against Florida Southern on Wednesday was not just an ordinary win. It was a record breaking shutout four years in the making. Crescent passed Kathy Atkins (1999-02) in career shutouts at Eckerd with 17.
On Saturday, Crescent pulled in a season high 12 saves on her way to another 1-0 shutout victory. She totaled 16 saves on the week.
"I am so proud of both of these girls," said Head Coach,
Danielle Fotopoulos. "For Morgan, breaking the shutout record is rewarding and being named Defensive Player of the Week is outstanding. Then, having Arie score two game winning goals and leading the team with her enthusiasm this week is remarkable."
Coach Fotopoulos went on to say, "Both Arie and Morgan are senior captain leaders and pioneers of this era for the Eckerd women's soccer team. I am thankful to get to have the opportunity to coach them"
