ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Eckerd College volleyball program is pleased to announce a recent pledge from setter Emily Schadow of Bloomington, Minn., as part of its recruiting haul for the upcoming academic year.
Schadow, along with continued emergence of junior-to-be
Madison Burr, helps supplement the departure of four-year senior standout setter and All-Sunshine State Conference selection
Bri Smith.
“Emily has played for some of the top clubs in the country and she is a leader in every sense of the word,” EC Head Coach Courtney Draper said. “She will be able to help our team in a lot of ways early in her career.”
Schadow completed an impressive four-year career at Thomas Jefferson High School where she was a three-time All-South Suburban Conference selection under the coaching of Michelle Grice. She was also named the
Bloomington Sun-Current Player of the Week.
Besides being a four-year starter on the court for the Jaguars, she lettered in track, competing in shot put and discus events.
Schadow also contributed to a number of highly successful and nationally-recognized programs on the club circuit while being profiled regularly on PrepVolleyball.com and Breakdown Elite recruiting lists.
As part of a combined seven club and Junior Olympic teams she competed on beginning at the age of 13, Schadow drew the attention of Draper on the national scene at an AAU Tournament.
With the Mizuno Minnesota One 16-1s, she helped the squad to a third-place showing at the AAU's 16 Open. As a member of the Lights 17-1s, Schadow helped the unit win top honors at the Omaha President's Day 17 Open, bring home third at the AAU's 17 Open and competed in the U.S. Junior Olympics in the 17 Open.
In 2009, Schadow was a member of the United States Volleyball High Performance Girls Continental Select Team.
Schadow chose Eckerd over strong interest from the University of West Florida, Southwest Minnesota State University and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, among others.
The daughter of Chris and Sue Schadow, Emily intends on majoring in Visual Arts and Psychology when she begins class at Eckerd this fall.
